Frequently asked questions

How do I use Clipmoth?

Play a video or audio on any page, open Clipmoth (toolbar icon or side panel), choose the file, and press Save. The file is saved to your computer.

Nothing was detected on the page. Why?

Make sure the video is actually playing. Clipmoth detects the stream as it loads. Some players load media only after you press play or seek, so reopen it after playback starts. DRM-protected services (Netflix etc.) can't be detected by design.

Why can't the extension save YouTube, TikTok or Instagram?

YouTube is left out of the extension on purpose (Chrome Web Store rules). TikTok, Instagram, Bilibili and similar apps deliver video in a way the extension can't see. The Clipmoth Windows app can save all of them. See Clipmoth for Windows and the compatibility guide.

My HLS (.m3u8) download failed.

Some sites block cross-origin access (CORS) or use encryption the browser can't process. When that happens the desktop app can usually still save it, since it isn't limited by browser security rules.

I bought Premium — how do I activate it?

Check your email for a key like CM-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX, then paste it into the extension options (or the desktop app). One key works on every Clipmoth app. No email? Check spam, then email us.

Is my data collected?

No. The extension and the desktop app work on your device. The URLs, pages and files you save never reach our servers. The website counts a few anonymous events with no cookies or identifiers; see what the website records in our Privacy Policy.

How do I request a refund?

If Clipmoth doesn't work as described and we can't fix it, email us within 14 days of purchase for a full refund. See the Terms.
