Third-party reviews report changes to SnapTik in late 2025, including payment requests and watermarks. Lookalike sites can also explain why a download behaves differently than expected. This guide covers those reports, how to check the site you are using, and other ways to save TikTok videos.
The quick answer
- One video, on any device including a phone: paste the link into Cobalt (cobalt.tools). No account or install; the link goes to Cobalt’s server.
- Many videos or a whole profile, on a computer: yt-dlp, a free command-line tool that saves the file without a watermark by default.
- Your own videos: TikTok gives them to you without a watermark (see below).
What changed at SnapTik
For years snaptik.app was the default free, no-watermark TikTok downloader. According to third-party reviews, since late 2025 it works differently (as of October 2026; we have not verified this ourselves):
- Its own watermark: the free tier stamps a SnapTik logo, so you get a different watermark, not none.
- A daily cap: after a handful of saves the button reportedly stops until the next day, which looks like an outage.
- A paid plan: clean, unlimited downloads reportedly cost roughly $4.99 to $9.99 a month.
Regional blocking has also been reported: in some countries the domain does not load at all. A different tool usually works from the same connection.
Is the site you are on even SnapTik?
The originals are snaptik.app and ssstik.io (SSSTik). Lookalikes on .kim, .sbs, .cc, .pro and similar endings are copycats funded by aggressive ads, and many “not working” complaints are really about them. Signs you are on one:
- Fake download buttons that open an ad or an app-store page.
- Redirect chains through several pages, sometimes with no file at the end.
- Rotating domains that reappear on a new ending when one is blocked.
- APK or “helper app” prompts: a web downloader never needs you to install anything.
Even when a clone works, it does Cobalt’s job with more clicks and more risk.
Official options and terms
What TikTok itself offers:
- Save video: Share → Save video, where the creator allows it. The file carries TikTok’s moving logo and the creator’s @username; the stream your player gets has none, which is what every “no watermark” tool relies on.
- Creator control: in Privacy → Downloads, creators can turn off Allow downloads for the account or per video, and Save video disappears.
- Your own videos: save them from your profile or TikTok Studio on the web. Settings → Account → Download your data produces an archive.
- Favorites: the bookmark keeps a video in the app for as long as the creator leaves it up.
TikTok’s terms grant a limited license to view content and, in substance, forbid downloading except through TikTok’s own features such as Save video. Using SnapTik, Cobalt or yt-dlp on someone else’s video is outside those features, and accounts have been restricted for it, even though a breach of the terms is not copyright infringement. The tools here are for your own content, content you have permission to save, and openly licensed material. We are not lawyers.
The terms and copyright in detail
Two separate questions apply. This is a plain-language summary, not legal advice.
- TikTok’s terms. They cover downloading, copying and distributing content outside TikTok’s features. A breach is a matter between you and TikTok.
- Copyright. Every TikTok video belongs to whoever made it. Re-uploading someone’s clip as your own, or stripping the username watermark to hide where it came from, is a copyright problem and goes against the creator’s wishes.
- Our position. We do not encourage reposting someone else’s work.

When it doesn’t work
If every tool refuses the same video, the problem is usually the video:
- Private, friends-only or age-restricted: tools see TikTok as a logged-out visitor. yt-dlp can use your own cookies for videos your account can see.
- Photo-mode post: a slideshow is images plus audio, not an MP4. Cobalt returns the images; yt-dlp saves images and audio separately.
- Short link refused: open the
vm.tiktok.comlink in a browser and copy the fulltiktok.com/@user/video/…address. - Deleted or region-locked: fails everywhere. Cobalt fetches from its own server’s location, so a clip that plays for you can still fail there.
- Ad blocker on SnapTik-style sites: it can hide the real download button. Try a private window with extensions off.
Frequently asked questions
Is SnapTik safe?
The original snaptik.app has run for years, and third-party reviews treat it as a working, ad-supported service; we have not audited it. Browser warnings, antivirus flags or an unfamiliar domain ending are all reasons to use a different tool.
I installed an app from a SnapTik lookalike. What now?
Remove it and run a malware scan. Then use Cobalt in your browser, which needs nothing installed.
Can I download a TikTok if the creator disabled downloads?
Third-party tools often still can, because the setting only removes TikTok’s own button. We recommend respecting it: add the video to Favorites or ask the creator directly.
Does Cobalt still work for YouTube?
Not on its public instance, which disabled YouTube in 2025 (details). TikTok, X and Instagram still work as of October 2026.
